Peeples Law Group – Legal Focus Scholarship

In order to encourage interest and passionate engagement in the practice of law, Peeples Law Group is proud to sponsor a $1,000 scholarship opportunity open to those interested in pursuing the study of U.S. law.

For more than 20 years, the attorneys and staff of Peeples Law Group have worked to provide client-focused, dedicated, and knowledgeable advocacy on behalf of our clients. We pride ourselves on providing the professionalism and comprehensive approach employed by many larger firms while maintaining a client-centric, small firm culture. We seek to support the education of scholarship candidates similarly committed to the integrity of the practice of law while always keeping the needs of those who require legal assistance first and foremost in their hierarchy of priorities.

To foster a desire to serve those in need of legal counsel, our firm has created a scholarship for students who are either currently enrolled in an undergraduate or advanced degree program or who plan to enroll in a degree-granting program that promotes legal education opportunities. Former President Barak Obama once observed that “The study of law can be disappointing at times, a matter of applying narrow rules and arcane procedure to an uncooperative reality… But that’s not all the law is. The law is also memory; the law also records a long-running conversation, a nation arguing with its conscience.” Our firm similarly believes in the depth, nuance, and power of the study of law and it is our great privilege to financially assist those interested in pursuing educational opportunities rooted in the study of modern U.S. law and/or its evolution over time.

Peeples Law Group will be awarding a $1,000 scholarship to a Junior/Senior in high school, and to a student pursuing college or an advanced degree of any type. Those awarded these scholarships must meet the eligibility and selection criteria outlined below.

Eligibility and Scholarship Selection Criteria

To be considered, applicants must demonstrate that their experience fulfills the following eligibility requirements and selection criteria:

This scholarship is offered to high school Juniors and Seniors, as well as any student currently enrolled in an accredited community college, undergraduate, or graduate program in the United States.

The scholarship candidate must possess an interest in studying U.S. law. This interest may be demonstrated by relevant life experiences, past and/or present volunteer experiences, educational experiences, and/or professional experience.

The scholarship candidate must be in good academic standing, with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above.

Please note that the scholarship funds can be applied to tuition, room and board, books, and/or other fees, at the high school, community college, undergraduate, or graduate program where the student is currently enrolled or will eventually be enrolled, provided that the program in question is accredited and located within the United States.

Scholarship Application Requirements

To be considered for this scholarship, please submit the following documentation:

  1.     Maryland is an “equitable distribution” state, which allows family law judges to make property division determinations based on what they believe is “fair.” In many other states, courts are required to distribute marital assets equitably. Do you believe that Maryland’s equitable distribution approach is superior to an approach that requires the equitable split of marital assets? Why or why not?
  2.     Many out-of-state business entities choose to incorporate their companies in Maryland, due to the state’s favorable tax rates and business climate. If a young, aspiring business owner approached you about incorporating their business in Maryland instead of Minnesota, how would you go about advising them to make a decision either way?
  3.     What inspires you to study law and what do you plan to do after pursuing your legally focused education?

The Peeples Law Group Legal Focus Scholarship winners will be announced in March of 2022.

Scholarship Application Instructions

Scholarship applicants should send all required documentation noted above via email to scholarship@peepleslawgroup.com. The official submission deadline for all application materials is February 22, 2022.

    Client Review

“I hired Peeples Law for my car accident. From the moment I talked to Ms. Peeples, I felt like she actually cared about me and the outcome. She also explained the legal process to me because I didn’t know what to expect. Luckily, we never had to file a lawsuit because she was able to get a great settlement for my injuries. From beginning to end, she was fair, easy to talk to, and I felt like she always had my best interests at heart. I highly recommend.”
